Earlier this year, Belize made significant legislative progress by passing the Disabilities Bill, a historic piece of legislation aimed at promoting equal opportunities and preventing discrimination against individuals with disabilities. This bill is particularly noteworthy for its emphasis on the right to employment and mandates that both government and private buildings ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, including those in wheelchairs, within a year.
Minister of Human Development, Dolores Balderamos-Garcia, who introduced the bill, emphasized that the legislation is designed to hold relevant parties accountable for ensuring accessibility.
