As the COVID-19 omicron variant continues to surge and impact employee absenteeism, California lawmakers are looking to revive coronavirus-related paid sick leave at the state level.
Gov. Gavin Newsom has reached an agreement with California legislators to renew a statewide supplemental COVID-19 paid-sick-leave law that expired on Sept. 30, 2021. The new law, if passed, would remain in effect through Sept. 30, 2022.
“California’s ability to take early budget action will protect workers and provide real relief to businesses reeling from this latest surge,” Newsom said in a joint statement with California Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.
